CRCT - What is it?

The CRCT - Centre de Recherche en Calcul Thermochimique / Centre for Research in Computational Thermochemistry, is a research centre based at the Polytechnique Montréal (the engineering faculty of the Université de Montréal).

The CRCT was founded in 1984 by Professors Christopher W. Bale and Arthur D. Pelton, who still remain co-directors of the Centre. In addition to training engineers and scientists, the mandate of the CRCT is the research and/or development of thermodynamic models and data for different types of phases and solutions techniques for estimating phase diagrams of multicomponent sytems methods for representing and calculating complex chemical equilibria.

The Centre actively participates in contractual, grant and applied research projects often in collaboration with industry, government and university groups from other countries. Currently there are about 20 people (students, professors, support staff) working in the Centre. A principal activity of the CRCT is the the promotion and development of the F*A*C*T thermochemical databases and FactSage software.

Where are we? How to get here

We are on the Campus of the Université de Montréal (not McGill University). Closest entrance on the campus to our building is the junction Queen Mary / Decelles. Refer to the campus map. Taxis enter for free. Private parking is $13 (Canadian) per day. You can park in the Louis-Colin garage (#24 on the campus map) in front of our building (Pavillon André Aisenstadt - #20 on the campus map. ). We are on the 6th (top) floor - when you visit us please report to the secretary in room 6467.

From Downtown by automobile
- approx 8 kms/5 miles, 10-15 mins.
You need to go north on Cotes-des-Neiges, for example go west along Sherbrooke (or along René Levesque). Turn right at Cotes-des-Neiges (or turn right on Guy which becomes Cotes-des-Neiges). Proceed for several kms (8 mins). You will see fields and a cemetary on the right. The tall yellowish tower with a dome roof is the library of the Université de Montréal. Turn right at Decelles. Enter the campus at Queen Mary and refer to the campus map.

From Montreal by Metro - refer to the Montreal Metro map
The Montreal undergroud railway is clean and efficient, and the vehicules run on rubber tires. A Metro/Bus ticket costs $3.00 (Canadian) (or 6 tickets for $14.25) - exact money is requested since change is not given. Depending upon your location, it may be practical for you to take the Metro. Transfer to the 'blue' line (Snowdon - St. Michel) and exit at Université de Montréal. Note, you can stay 'inside' (see the 'yellow' line on the campus map.) and make you way to the CRCT without having to go outside (very convenient in winter).

From Montreal by bus
The '165' (or 535) bus runs the length of Cotes-des-Neiges. A Metrao/Bus ticket costs $3.00 (Canadian) (or 6 for $14.25) - exact money is requested since change is not given. Get off at Queen Mary Road. Walk one block east along Queen Mary. This the Queen Mary / Decelles entrance to the campus - the red arrow on the campus map. Total walking time from bus stop to CRCT is approx. 8- 10 minutes.

From Trudeau (Dorval) Airport (or Mirabel Airport)
Take a taxi. Specify the Université de Montréal at Queen Mary / Decelles. Approx. cost $50 (Canadian).

Automobile from outside Montreal
Locate the east/west highways 20 and 40 on the road map of Montreal. Locate highway 15 which runs north/south between 20 and 40 - this section of highway 15 is called Decarie. Along Decarie get off at the Queen Mary exit and stay on the service road which runs along the side of Decarie. Whether you are coming from the north (highway 40) or from the south (highway 20) you will cross a couple of roads (2 traffic lights) before you hit Queen Mary road. Turn east at the Queen Mary road (coming from the north this means turn left, and coming from the south this means you turn right). Keep going along Queen Mary road (middle lane) until you get to the end (8 - 10 minutes and at least 10 traffic lights). This is the Queen Mary /Decelles entrance to the campus - the red arrow on the campus map.
